"Tu Guardián" by Juanes, English translation of lyrics

"Your Guardian"
Style: Slow rock, promise song
Country: Colombia

Duermete pronto, mi amor
Que la noche ya llegó
Y cierra tus ojos que yo
De tus sueños cuidaré

Go to sleep soon, my love
That the night has come
And close your eyes sure that I
Will guard your dreams

Siempre a tu lado estaré
Y tu guardián yo seré
Toda la vida

Always by your side I will be
And your guardian I will be
All my life

Si un día te sientes mal
Yo de bien te llenaré
Y aunque muy lejos tú estés
Yo a tu sombra cuidaré

If one day you feel bad
I will fill you with good
And even if you are far away
I your shadow will guard

Siempre a tu lado estaré
Y tu guardián yo seré
Toda la vida

Always by your side I will be
And your guardian I will be
All my life

Esta noche
Te prometo que no vendrán
Ni dragones ni fantasmas a molestar
Y en la puerta de tus sueños yo voy a estar
Hasta que tus ojos vuelvan a abrir

This night
I promise you that they will not come
Not dragons nor ghosts to bother you
And at the door of your dreams I will be
Until your eyes open again

Duermete, mi amor, sueña con mi voz
Duermete, mi amor, hasta que salga el sol
Duermete, mi amor, sueña con mi voz
Duermete, mi amor, que aquí estaré yo

Fall asleep, my love, dream of my voice
Fall asleep, my love, until the sun rises
Fall asleep, my love, dream of my voice
Fall asleep, my love, sure that I will be here

Translation Notes:

Y cierra tus ojos que yo / De tus sueños cuidaré
And close your eyes sure that I / Will guard your dreams

que = lit. that

---

Siempre a tu lado estaré / Y tu guardián yo seré
Always by your side I will be / And your guardian I will be

See the previous post on ser (to be) vs. estar (to be).

---

Y tu guardián yo seré / Toda la vida
And your guardian I will be / All my life

toda la vida = lit. all the life

Spanish often uses la/el (the) where English will use a possessive pronoun like my/his/her/etc.

e.g.
lavarse las manos = to wash one's hands, lit. to wash the hands

---

Y aunque muy lejos tú estés
And even if you are far away
lit. And even though very far away you may be

lejos = far away

---

Te prometo que no vendrán
Ni dragones ni fantasmas a molestar

I promise you that they will not come
Not dragons nor ghosts to bother you

ni... ni...(ni... ni..., etc.) = not... nor... (nor... nor..., etc.)

You can add as many items to the list as you want. The only requirement is that you start with a negative phrase (e.g. "no vendrán").

---

Hasta que tus ojos vuelvan a abrir
Until your eyes open again

(Hasta) que (tus ojos) (vuelvan a abrir)
(Until) that (your eyes) (again open)

volver [verb] = to return, to come back
