"Fatalidad" by Julio Jaramillo, English translation of lyrics

"Fatality"
Style: Pasillo, mourning a lost love
Country: Ecuador

Nocturno de celaje deslumbrante,
Tu encanto rememoro a cada instante,
Romance de un momento en que viviera.

Nocturne of glittering, hued sky,
I recall your charm at every instant,
The romance of a moment I would live.

Con el alma iluminada, descubriendo en tu mirada
Un amor que nadie tuvo para mí.
Aunque aciago el destino, dividió nuestro camino
Y angustiado para siempre te perdí.

With my soul illuminated, discovering in your gaze
A love that no one had for me.
Although unlucky destiny divided our path
And anguished, I lost you forever.

Chorus:
-------------------------------------------------------------
Fatalidad signo cruel, en su rodar se llevo
El más valioso joyer que tu querer me brindó:
El calor permanente de un cariño,
Que ávido como un niño de ti tanto esperé.

Fatality of cruel nature, in its roaming took
The most precious jewel that your love brought me:
The permanent warmth of an affection,
That, eager like a child, I so sought [*lit. waited for] from you.

Porque te fuiste mujer, como un sueño fugas,
Dejando en todo mi ser una ansiedad pertinaz.
Ahora espero en las noches tu regreso
Al sitio donde un beso fue chispa de mi fe.

Because you left, woman, like a fleeting dream,
Leaving in all my being a stubborn distress.
Now I wait at night for your return
At the place where a kiss was the starting spark of my faith.
-------------------------------------------------------------

Estrella fugitiva de mi anhelo,
Te lleva por desconocido cielo,
Detente, no me robes la alegría.

Fugitive star of my yearning,
It takes you by an unfamiliar sky,
Stop (yourself), do not steal my joy.

Sin tu influjo iluminoso,
Mi existencia es un destrozo.
Oh gitana son tus ojos mi guión.
[*guión = script]

Without your illuminating influence,
My existence is a disaster.
Oh gypsy, your eyes are my guiding principle.

No te apartes del camino,
Bella luz que me ilumina,
Oh gitana mi nocturno de pasión.

Do not stray from the road,
Beautiful light that illuminates me,
Oh gypsy, my nocturne of passion.

[Chorus, "Fatalidad signo cruel, en su rodar se llevo..."]

"viveras" is 1st (and 3rd) person imperfect subjunctive of "vivir" (to live)

---

Aunque aciago el destino, dividió nuestro camino

lit. Though, unlucky the destiny, it divided our path

---

---

El más valioso joyer que tu querer me brindó
The most precious jewel that your love brought me

joyer ~ jewel (not in dictionaries, dialect Spanish)

joya [f. noun] (plural: joyas) = jewel (plural: jewels)
joyería [f. noun] = jewelry (collective noun), jewelry (shop)
joyel [m. noun] = small jewel

brindar = to offer; to toast

---

Porque te fuiste mujer, como un sueño fugaz
Because you left, woman, like a fleeting dream

fugaz [adj] = fleeting, ephemeral

fugar [verb] = to escape, to flee
From the same Latin that gave English the word "fugitive."

Related:

estrella fugaz = shooting star

---

Dejando en todo mi ser una ansiedad pertinaz
Leaving in all my being a stubborn distress
Leaving in all my being a persistent anxiety

---

Al sitio donde un beso fue chispa de mi fe

chispa [f. noun] = lit. spark

---

Te lleva por desconocido cielo
It takes you by an unfamiliar sky

That's my conventional (and probably more correct) translation.

Originally, I thought it was this:

Te lleva por desconocido cielo
The sky takes you for a stranger

I suspect that "desconocido" (unknown, unfamiliar, stranger) refers to "estrella" from the previous line. The only problem is that "estrella" is feminine and "desconocido" is masculine. I think that the gender was changed for purposes of poetic sound.

---

Sin tu influjo iluminoso, mi existencia es un destrozo
Without your illuminating influence, my existence is a disaster
Without your illuminating influence, my existence is in chaos

---

Oh gitana son tus ojos mi guión
Oh gypsy, your eyes are my guiding principle
lit. Oh gypsy, your eyes are my script

guión [m. noun] = script (as in a theater/tv/movie script)
