Translation:
No hay doctor que me retenga,
No hay dolor que me detenga,
No hay planeta que me eclipse,
O de tu lado me desvíe.
There is no doctor who can retain me,
There is no pain that can detain me,
There is no planet that can eclipse me,
Or from your side divert me.
Del clamor yo no dependo.
Del halago me desprendo.
No hay error que me resigne,
Ni un por qué que me empecine.
I do not depend on the commotion.
Flatteries, I cast off.
There is no error that will make me surrender [*lit. resign],
Nor a "why" that haunts my thoughts. [*lit. approx. Nor a "why" that makes me stubborn.]
No hay rencor que me de frío,
No hay amor como este mío, nooo~
Tus acciones te definen.
El destino es quien camine.
There is no resentment that makes me cold,
There is no love like mine, nooo~
Your actions define you.
Destiny is whoever walks.
Nooo, no hay temblor que me dilate.
No hay distancia que esté lejos.
Nooo, there is no earthquake that can delay me.
There is no distance too far away. [*lit. There is no distance that is far away.]
Chorus:
----------------------------------------
Desde lejos nos tenemos en el fuego,
Desde lejos nos tenemos en los mares,
Desde lejos yo te siento amor.
From far away, we keep each other aflame, [*lit. From far away, we keep each other in the fire]
From far away, we keep each other in the seas,
From far away, I feel/send you love.
Desde lejos nos tenemos en los huesos,
Desde lejos nuestros cuerpos se hacen aire,
Desde lejos yo te puedo amar.
From far away, we have each other in our bones,
From far away, our bodies become air,
From far away, I can love you.
----------------------------------------
From far away, our love will be legend, ooh~
From far away, they will talk,
Of this love that is legend, they will talk.
There is no honor in this war {nor in any war},
Nor zealousness that deserves it.
There is no end that fills my spirit.
There is no buffoon that can divert me.
Si eres fe yo me convierto.
Tu existencia me da aliento.
Te lo digo convencido,
No hay amor como este mío.
If you are faith, I convert.
Your existence gives me breath.
I tell you fully convinced,
There is no love like mine.
Y eso siento más o menos,
Y por eso mismo muero, ooo~
Dime si no merecemos
Dar la vida en intentar. [*dar = to give]
And that I feel, more or less,
And for that very reason I die, ooh~
Tell me if we do not deserve
To spend our lives trying.
If I must love you from afar,
I want to do it until the end... noo~ the end, the end.
Modified chorus:
----------------------------------------
From far away, I love you with the fire (within me),
From far away, I have/keep you with the seas,
From far away, I feel/send you love.
Desde lejos nos tenemos en los huesos,
Desde lejos nuestros cuerpos se hacen aire,
Desde lejos yo te puedo hablar.
From far away, we have each other in our bones,
From far away, our bodies become air,
From far away, I can speak to you.
----------------------------------------
Desde lejos nuestro amor será leyenda,
Desde lejos hablarán
De este amor que es de leyenda,
Y tú te vas. (x2)
From far away, our love will be legend,
From far away, they will talk
Of this love that is legend,
And you depart. (x2)
Te vas...
You depart...
(x2)
Se hacen aire...
They turn to air...
(x2)
Translation Notes:
There is no doctor who can retain me, / There is no pain that can detain me, / There is no planet that can eclipse me.
When I was a kid, moving from bilingual education to English-only, I used to use "that" for these kind of phrases no matter the subject. It took me a while to realize that I should be using "who" for people; Spanish does not make that distinction and people did not correct me when I said "that."
This is less a translation note and more a note for teachers who may be teaching English-learning students. Make sure to catch this mistake in their essays and correct it!
---
El destino es quien camine.
Destiny is whoever walks.
If you just look at the English, this line sounds like it’s supposed to be something like, "Destiny is whichever road I walk." In Spanish, you could say that with "El destino es el que camine." The quien from the real line is not the right pronoun for that, though.
---
Desde lejos yo te siento amor.
From far away I feel love for you. [1st, lit.]
From far away, I send you love. [2nd, alt. lit.]
If you have to pick one, the first one because it is the more obviously intended meaning. The second is an alternative interpretation intended to add to but not replace the first one.
---
Desde lejos nos tenemos en los mares.
From far away, we keep each other in the seas.
This sounds idiomatic to me, but I am not familiar with any expression like this and I could not find it online. Comment if you have heard it elsewhere.
---
No hay amor como este mío.
There is no love like mine.
There is no love like this one mine. [lit.]
Emphasis.
---
Y tú te vas.
And you depart. [lit.]
And you go. [alt. lit.]
And you leave. [alt. lit.]
The verbs "go" and "leave" sounded so negative and sad to me. I think "depart" sounds better. They are not breaking up. She is physically leaving, not emotionally leaving.
