"Machista" by Buffalo Moon, English translation of lyrics

"Machista"
Album: Machista, 2014
Style: Contemporary pop, energetic pop with rock influences, electropop
Countries: USA, Ecuador (lead vocalist Karen Freire)

Listen:

I found Buffalo Moon on Mic.com's list of "11 Incredible Latina Musicians You Won't Find on Mainstream Radio." The song "Machista" is an energetic song about the narrator's macho lover whom she is leaving. The music video [YT] shows her packing a suitcase and leading a little girl (presumably her daughter) out of the house. She's done with that whole macho thing. The video has a girl power energy to it. This would be a good workout song.

Transcription and translation:

Me enamore con un hombre machista.
Como si fuera poco, un hombre egoísta,
Que no puede cambiar por el supuesto amor que me tiene a mi.

I fell in love with a macho man.
And if that weren't enough, a selfish man,
Who can't change himself for the supposed love he has for me.

Oooh oh, machista machista. (x3)

Oooh oh, macho, macho man. (x3)

Marcelo, Marcelo, me engañaste.
Me engañó.
[*unsure of transcription of this line]
Por creer en ti,
No me eches la culpa a mi.
Los hombres siempre van a mentir.

Marcelo, Marcelo, you tricked me.
He tricked me.
For believing in you,
Don't blame me.
Men will always lie.

Me encontré perdida en sus brazos
Y ahora que todo cambió, me dejó en pedazos.
Alguien explíqueme que es sucio a mi pequeño amor.
[*unsure of transcription]

I found myself lost in his arms
And now that everything changed, he left me in pieces.
Someone explain what's dirty to my little heart [*lit. my little love].

Oooh oh, machista machista. (x3)

Oooh oh, macho, macho man. (x3)

Marcelo, Marcelo, me engañaste.
Me engañó.
[*unsure of transcription]
Por creer en ti,
No me eches la culpa a mi.
Los hombres siempre van a mentir.

Marcelo, Marcelo, you tricked me.
He tricked me.
For believing in you,
Don't blame me.
Men will always lie.

Y no me importa su machismo.
Me vale garra.

And his macho attitude doesn't matter to me.
I don't give a damn about it.

No me veo con el,
Porque a veces se cree más que un dios.

I can't see myself with him,
Because sometimes he sees himself higher than a god.

Oooh oh, machista machista.

Oooh oh, macho, macho man.

Translation Notes:

I liked this song and I couldn't find the lyrics online, so I went ahead and transcribed it. There are two lines I'm unsure about, but I can't tell what else they might be saying. I may edit them later.

---

Me vale garra. = alternative to: Me vale (un) gorro.
I don't give a damn about it. [*slang]
It's worth old bits of leather to me. [*lit.]

---

Porque a veces se cree más que un dios.
Because sometimes he sees himself higher than a god.

más = more

Me engaño

A great discovery and another great translation. I´ve just posted the line you´re unsure about on Word Reference: http://forum.wordreference.com/threads/me-enga%C3%B1o-o-me-enga%C3%B1%C3%B3.3047809/

Re: Me engaño

Note: You forgot to translate the last two lines.

Re: Me engaño

Thank you for the comment and the post! I just translated the last two lines (good catch). I also realized I was ambiguous when I said I was unsure about those two lines. It's not the Spanish to English translation that I'm unsure about, but the Spanish transcription itself. I listened to those lines over and over again and what I'm hearing is written here, but I think I might be mishearing part of it. I replied on the WordReference thread to clarify there, too. I inserted a link, so I'm waiting for moderator approval.

Also I edited "me engaño" to "me engañó". That's not the mistake I think I'm hearing, but I neglected to add the accent since I expected to change the line anyway.

Re: Me engaño

You´ve changed it to me engañó? Someone has responded saying they agree with your original translation (not a native though)...

Love your website anyways. Let me buy you a beer if you ever visit Barcelona!

Re: Me engaño

I think engañó is correct.

Thanks! I'm all the way in California, but perhaps one day. :-)
